The Northern District of Georgia bench has a new member. One week ago, the United States Senate confirmed the nomination of Judge William “Billy” Ray II. You will find news coverage here by the Fulton County Daily Report and by the Gwinnett Daily Post. Judge Ray, formerly of the Gwinnett County Superior Court (he lives in Grayson) and the Georgia Court of Appeals, has waited sixteen months since President Trump nominated him.

With his arrival on the federal bench, Judge Ray fills the slot vacated last year when Judge Harold L. Murphy took senior status. We now have nine full-time judges and four senior judges on the district court bench. (Those numbers will shift when Judge Story soon takes senior status.)
