The Federal Defender Program will host the annual St. Crispin’s Day Celebration on October 23-24, 2024, at the State Bar of Georgia. We are thrilled to announce that Jarrett Adams will be our keynote speaker.
Adams was wrongfully convicted (at the age of 17 years old) of a crime he did not commit, and the court sentenced him to serve 28 years in a maximum-security prison. Adams served a decade in prison, but with the help of the Wisconsin Innocence Project, he convinced the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to exonerate and free him. Adams boldly pursued a law degree at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and he later earned a prestigious clerkship at the very same court that reversed his wrongful conviction. Adams is now a practicing attorney. He launched his own law firm in multiple cities across the nation and co-founded a non-profit organization, Life After Justice, which is committed to preventing wrongful convictions and creating support systems for exonerees as they rebuild their lives post-exoneration.
And he wrote about his journey in a wonderful memoir: Redeeming Justice: From Defendant to Defender, My Fight for Equity on Both Sides of a Broken System. We are not the only folks impressed by the book:
“A moving and beautifully crafted memoir.” — Scott Turow
“A daring act of justified defiance.” — Shaka Senghor
“Nothing less than heroic.” — John Grisham
On October 24, 2024, the second day of the St. Crispin’s Day event, Adams will speak to us and sign copies of the book. We are so excited!
