The Russell Report

Posted by

Those Amazon boxes you see piled up on the front steps of the Russell Building are filled with black robes. Two new judges on our federal bench now wear flowing, judicial haute couture.

As we reported last month, the roster of district court judges now includes William M. Ray, II. You can learn more about Judge Ray by visiting his Ballotpedia page. Judge Ray filled the slot vacated by Judge Harold L. Murphy when Judge Murphy took senior status. Yet according to the court’s web site, Judge Ray’s chambers are not in Rome, but in Atlanta.

The court also named a new magistrate judge: Christopher Bly. As he pulls into the garage beneath the Russell Building, Judge Bly will feel right at home. He has been an Assistant United States Attorney in our district for ten years, and most recently worked in the Appellate Section. Early in his career, Judge Bly served as a law clerk to the late Judge William C. O’Kelley. Chief Judge Thrash penned an announcement, with Judge Bly’s impressive biography, on the court’s website.
